Successful Move on Fair brings community and YMCA residents together
On Friday, 23rd February, Julia Daniels (Move on Coordinator, GWC), Abigail Bryant (STAR worker) and Nick Levett (Move on Coordinator, WCH) hosted a ‘Move on Fair’ at George Williams Centre. Many representatives from a wide range of housing and work and learning related agencies attended, including Brighton and Hove City Council supported housing, social and seniors’ housing as well as mental health housing; it was also great for us to learn more about the brand new Council run Private Rented Access scheme, Grace Eyre, as well as the Safehaven Sussex shared housing projects and opportunities for residential rehabilitation in the city (BHT Recovery Project and the St. Thomas Fund). Also present were professionals representing the BHT Intern Programme, commissioner Craig Cotton, Kerry Carlier, BHCC move-on coordinator and other Work and Learning initiatives. And of course clients from our Brighton YMCA projects enjoyed meeting Ziggy Togni and Jane Owen, representing Stanley Court and Leslie Best House, respectively; Will Vaughan (Work and Learning Coordinator) was also present, promoting the George Williams Centre LifeSkills course and forthcoming peer mentoring training programme.
Clients from William Collier House were very pleased to be able to view lower supported flats at George Williams Centre- we were all very impressed with the quality of accommodation there and the hospitality shown by staff and residents alike (thanks Cathy!).
Nick said: ‘All in all, workers and residents had a great day and we all left with new move on ideas to promote at our projects. We look forward to hosting the next Move on Fair at William Collier House in the Autumn. Watch this space!’
Julia Daniels added: ‘Feedback from both providers and clients has been great as have results from the event. We managed to identify 5 positive move on opportunities for GWM clients. 3 into the BHCC PRS scheme. 1 into seniors housing and one into specialist accommodation Grace Eyre. The referral paperwork and futher meetings are underway and we are hoping all 5 clients will secure accommodation in the near future. Thanks again to all who took part.’
