Sun, Sunflowers and Fundraising
The year’s hard work has started to bear fruit in Fred Emery Court’s garden.
Staff and residents delighted in the new crop of strawberries, coquets, raspberries, tomatoes and herbs. The 9ft 2in sunflower was the star of the vegetable patch.
‘The garden has been a huge success this year!’ said Anita Thomas, project worker at Fred Emery Court. Taking advantage of the warm weather, the garden was put to best use during the summer months.
‘We held a barbecue in August and invited agencies. The Food Partnership, the Friends Centre, The Bridge, were all there. Vicky McFarlane, the Mentor Co-ordinator as well as a trained mentor also attended the barbecue.’
‘We felt it was important to fund an outside charity local to the community. One of our residents suggested the Clocktower Sanctuary, so we did and so far have raised around £92.59. It was indeed a brilliant afternoon, the sun was out and another resident made a burger cake which was fantastic!’
