Marathon runner helps kick-start bicycle repair group

After workingshawn medal hard at setting up Fred Emery Court’s bicycle maintenance and repair group, project worker Shawn Timmons realised it needed help to grow. So on the 21st of September, Shawn decided to run the Farnham Pilgrim marathon to help fundraise for the group.

The group involves the residents in the repair of old bikes. Once fixed, the residents get to keep the bike they worked on.

Shawn said: ‘Having access to a bike will create independence and enable our clients to get to volunteer work or courses. It is a low impact exercise for people of all ages. Exercising and being outdoors also promote good emotional wellbeing. It also promotes social inclusion, as it encourages our residents to work together on a project.’
